Culra Bothy is Closed
Culra Bothy, situated within Ben Alder estate, has been closed after a recent survey showed up areas of exposed asbestos on the building’s outer walls.
Culra, which can accommodate more than 20 people is one of Scotland’s best known bothies and is frequently used as a base to climb some of the country’s more remote Munros. The building is maintained by the Mountain Bothies Association and can be reached using 15km of paths and tracks from Dalwhinnie. Although no final decision has been made regarding the bothy’s future, it seems likely that it will be demolished.
