Deer Stalking Info Now Available Online
The stalking of Red Deer stags is once again under way in Scotland. The official season lasts from 1st July to 20th October, with the latter part of the period being the busiest. During this time there is a need for regular liaison between hillwalkers and stalkers, to prevent any disruption to either activity. ‘Heading for the Scottish Hills’ is a new web-based scheme which has been set up to provide up-to-date information of where and when deer stalking is taking place. Successfully piloted since 2010, it will now replace ‘Hillphones’, a recorded telephone message service, which operated from 1996 to 2011. It’s worth remembering that not all upland areas are included in the new service; there are some sporting estates which are not yet part of the scheme and other areas where stalking is absent.
