Golden Eagles Boost for the Southern Uplands
In a bid to preserve and bolster the small and highly vulnerable Golden Eagle population in the south of Scotland, three Golden Eagles have been released into the Moffat Hills. The South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project aims to carry out a series of annual translocations over the next five years. During the first stage of the project the birds were relocated from eyries in the Central Highlands to aviaries in Southern Scotland. The eaglets (a male and two females named Edward, Emily and Beaky) were then reared to become strong and healthy adults, before being carefully released into the wild. Thanks to satellite tagging the eagles will be tracked and monitored, and the early signs are that they are settling in well to their new life in Southern Scotland.
