Mountain Re-measurement Findings: One Less Munro
During July 2011, The Munro Society carried out surveys to re-measure three mountains within the Fisherfield area of northwest Scotland.
All three were just above or below the crucial 3000ft (914m) threshold required for Munro status. It was thought that Beinn Dearg Mor with a previous map height of 910m may possibly become a Munro but it was found to be even lower, at 906.28m. The current OS height of the Munro, Ruadh Stac Mor was found to be more or less unchanged at 918m, so it avoids demotion. However, the third mountain, Beinn a’Chlaidheimh (previously mapped as 916m) was found to be 913.96m and sadly looks like it will no longer feature in the list of Munros.
